OpenAI seeks $30 billion round instead of an IPO
Talks could value OpenAI at about $1.4 trillion. Sam Altman said this is the wrong year to go public.
The numbers
OpenAI is in talks to raise at least $30 billion at a valuation of about $1.4 trillion. In March it raised $122 billion at $852 billion. Talks are early and terms may change.
Why now
Altman said the priority is addressing safety concerns and called this an "ill-advised moment" for an IPO. The round would bridge the company to a later listing, while rival Anthropic keeps preparing its own.
