Google appeals EU order to open Android to rival AI assistants

The July order requires Google to open eleven Android features, including microphone, camera, screen content and wake-word detection, to rivals such as ChatGPT and Perplexity by 1 August 2027, in line with Android 18. The second gives rival search engines access to some search data by January.

Google argues the measures harm user privacy and device security, and that the search order would hand private queries to others without adequate anonymisation or consent.
