Visa, Mastercard join 26-member alliance on agent payments
Rain's alliance, launched on August 18, will set shared standards for how an agent proves who it acts for and how much it may spend.
Who is in
Stablecoin infrastructure company Rain set up the alliance. The 26 founding members include Visa, Mastercard, Fiserv, Circle, Solana, Remitly, Shift4, Chainalysis, Fireblocks and Uniswap Labs. Rain's line: "No single company should decide how agents transact on your behalf."
What they want to standardise
Shared rules for agent digital identity, loyalty programs and fraud detection, plus cross-compatible platforms for machine-to-machine stablecoin payments. The group also wants to define governance before federal regulators step in. McKinsey projects $3 trillion to $5 trillion in agentic commerce by 2030.
