Apple adds an AI assistant to Keynote, Pages and Numbers

3 min read News · Platforms

Apple is adding a beta AI assistant, built on Apple models and OpenAI, to Keynote, Pages and Numbers for Creator Studio subscribers. On macOS 27 the three apps also gain Model Context Protocol support, letting outside AI agents read and edit documents.

What happened

On 27 October Apple announced new AI features for its Creator Studio subscription, led by a beta assistant in Keynote, Pages and Numbers built on Apple models and OpenAI. It helps with slide design and animation, drafting and restructuring text, and calculations, charts and tables. Logic Pro gets a similar assistant. The features arrive in November as a free update for subscribers.

Price and requirements

Creator Studio costs $12.99 a month or $129 a year in the US. The apps stay free. The beta needs an Apple Intelligence device on iOS 27, iPadOS 27 or macOS 27 and works only in US English. Apple also unveiled M6 iMac and 14-inch MacBook Pro models, shipping 6 November, with a Neural Engine it says is 1.9x faster than M5.

The bigger news: MCP

On macOS 27, Keynote, Pages and Numbers support the Model Context Protocol, letting outside AI agents read content, make edits and run automated actions. With permission, Claude, ChatGPT or another agent could update a Numbers sheet and turn it into a Keynote deck, a notable opening for Apple's closed ecosystem.

Apple long preferred to automate its apps only through its own tools, so MCP support is a break: whichever agent a user chooses, iWork documents become a workspace that agent can reach.

Key terms

MCP is an open standard started by Anthropic and now backed by OpenAI, Google and Microsoft; any compatible agent can use an app that exposes an MCP server. Beta means results may be wrong and still need checking.

What comes next

Copilot runs in Microsoft 365 and Gemini in Workspace; Google brought Gemini to Sheets on iOS the same week. Apple is combining its own models, OpenAI and an open protocol. No date was given for languages beyond US English.

What it means for your business

  • Check which of your tools support MCP; it will be the key to handing reports and decks to agents.
  • Tidy your templates so agents can work with them.
  • Review AI-generated figures before they reach clients.
