Oracle embeds ChatGPT and Codex in its business software
At Oracle AI World in Las Vegas, Oracle expanded its OpenAI partnership: ChatGPT and Codex will be built into Oracle's business applications and database products, and Oracle Cloud will add Google TPUs, OpenAI's Jalapeño chip and Cerebras systems.
What happened
At Oracle AI World in Las Vegas on 27 October, Oracle expanded its OpenAI partnership with four enterprise offerings. CNBC reports ChatGPT and Codex will be integrated into Oracle's business applications and database products. New products include Oracle AI Workspace and App Composer. Co-CEO Clay Magouyrk shared the stage with Sam Altman; healthcare and finance are priority sectors.
Chip choice
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure will add Google TPUs, OpenAI's Jalapeño inference chip and Cerebras systems. Magouyrk said Oracle rolled out ChatGPT Desktop to all staff and that AI now writes more than 70% of its code. Altman urged enterprises to prioritise cybersecurity as models get better at finding vulnerabilities.
For OpenAI, the deal is the first chance to offer its own chip on a major third-party cloud, part of its plan to reduce dependence on Nvidia.
Timing
The news came a day after Anthropic's S-1. Oracle shares are down more than 30% this year on worries about financing its data-centre build-out. No rollout dates or pricing were given; OCI has more than 100 public regions.
Oracle wants to be a distribution channel for OpenAI models, not only a capacity landlord.
Key terms
ERP software runs accounting, purchasing, inventory and HR. An inference chip runs trained models efficiently. A TPU is Google's AI accelerator.
What comes next
Enterprise software vendors are embedding AI into existing workflows: Copilot at Microsoft, Agentforce at Salesforce, now ChatGPT and Codex at Oracle. Increasingly, your business software will choose your AI provider.
The database integration matters most: many companies keep their most sensitive data in Oracle databases, so direct AI access is both a productivity opportunity and a new security question.
What it means for your business
- Ask your ERP or CRM vendor which AI partnership is coming before buying separate tools.
- Confirm in the contract which data reaches the model and where it is processed.
- Measure real AI output in your team before setting targets.
