OpenAI is also testing a format called Sponsored Agents: a click on the ad opens a chat with the business's own AI agent. ## Fast growth ChatGPT ads started as a US pilot in February. On September 1 OpenAI said ads had passed a $1 billion annual run rate in under 200 days. Self-serve buying is open in 52 countries, and shopping results now require a product feed. ## What it means for a business An ad can now end in a conversation instead of a page.
