# Altman and Amodei brief the UN Security Council

The UN Security Council is hearing from industry leaders amid warnings that AI could improve itself and slip beyond human control.

## Who is speaking

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and Hugging Face co-founder Clément Delangue are briefing the 15-member Security Council. Altman is expected to propose shared benchmarks for measuring AI capabilities and judging the safeguards companies put in place.

## What Guterres asked for

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres opened the Assembly by calling for more AI oversight. He asked leaders to set the conditions for responsible pacing of AI and to work toward a multilateral risk framework with credible, independent oversight.

## The split

More than 20 mostly European countries called for binding safety measures. The two AI superpowers, the United States and China, did not endorse the idea.
