# BIST 100 opens the week up 1.42%

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 closed at 12,443.92 on October 5, led by banks and telecoms, with eyes on this week's inflation data.

## What happened

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 rose 1.42% on Monday, October 5, closing at 12,443.92 after trading between 12,373.11 and 12,528.60. The rebound followed sharp drops of 2.74% on September 24 and 2.79% on September 30 that had pushed the index below 12,000.

## The numbers

Banks, telecoms and chemicals gained while machinery and construction fell. ASTOR led turnover with 12.86 billion lira, followed by ASELS at 12.76 billion and AKBNK at 12.25 billion. YBTAS, ATEKS and MIATK hit the 10% daily limit up; GENIL, IZFAS and ISVEA fell 10%.

Late September selling came from rising global bond yields and a domestic fund investigation in which 58 people were detained and the Capital Markets Board opened a refund account for investors. Monday's rebound was helped by weak US data: the economy added only 29,000 jobs in September against 90,000 expected, cutting the odds of a Fed hike.
