# a16z raises a $1.1 billion fund for the physical side of AI

Andreessen Horowitz's Machine Age Fund will back hardware, from chips, memory, networking and storage up to data centers, robotics and home AI devices.

## Scope

The fund was announced on August 28 by general partners Ben Horowitz, Martin Casado, Raghu Raghuram, David Ulevitch and David George. It targets chips, memory, networking and storage, plus full systems: data centers, robotics and home AI appliances.

## The reasoning

a16z says every layer of the AI stack is "hitting the wall of today's supply chain capability, and the limits of physics and computer science," and sees a chance to rearchitect them "all the way down to the electricity."
